Motion Plan Questions Answered

Motion Furniture Warranties: FAQ

Direct answers to the most common questions motion furniture retailers and buyers ask about plan coverage, mechanism failure, in-home service, and claims.

For Motion Furniture Buyers

What does a motion furniture warranty cover?

Motors, actuators, control boards, transformers, USB and power port hardware, batteries on cordless models, manual mechanism arms, and the wiring connecting all components. Plans typically run 5 years. See a full coverage breakdown.

How likely is it that my power recliner will fail?

Approximately 35–40% probability that at least one major component (motor, control board, battery, etc.) fails within 5 years of daily use. The probability climbs sharply between years 3 and 5.

How much does motor replacement cost out of pocket?

$300–$700 for a single linear actuator including labor. $500–$900 for lift motors on lift chairs. $250–$450 for control boards. Battery replacement on cordless: $200–$400.

Why isn't the manufacturer warranty enough?

Most motion manufacturer warranties cover electronics for only 1–2 years and mechanism components for 3–5 years with thin coverage. Peak failure is years 3–5, which often falls outside meaningful manufacturer coverage. See extended vs. manufacturer warranty.

What about the USB ports and wireless charging on my recliner?

Most motion plans explicitly cover USB hardware, wireless charging pads, and power outlets built into recliner arms. Verify this in the plan certificate.

What if I have a cordless / battery-powered recliner?

Confirm the plan explicitly covers battery degradation beyond a stated threshold. Some plans treat normal battery decline as "normal use" and exclude it. Strong plans have specific battery-capacity coverage.

How do I file a motion claim?

Contact the plan administrator. They dispatch an in-home motion technician with the right replacement parts. See step-by-step claim filing.

For Motion Furniture Retailers

What attachment rate should motion retailers expect?

40–50% for trained motion retailers — among the highest attachment rates in furniture retail. The failure case is concrete and buyers convert at high rates when shown the failure curve.

What margin do motion plans deliver to retailers?

45–60% net retailer margin after provider costs. Plans price at 10–14% of motion purchase. On a premium $4,500 motion sectional, a single plan can deliver $250+ in net contribution.

How should plans be priced across a motion lineup?

8% on single-motor manual recliners, 12% on multi-motor power motion, 14% on advanced features (lift chairs, massage, heat). See pricing for conversion.

What about bundling plans with motion financing?

Motion plans bundle naturally with financing — the monthly impact of adding a plan to financing is modest relative to motion ticket size. Combined presentation lifts attachment 5–10 points. See bundling plans with financing.
